Position Title : Laboratory Supervisor
Duty Station : HCMC, Vietnam
Classification : General Service Staff, Grade 5
Type of Appointment : Fixed term, one year with possibility of extension

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief Migration Health Physician (CMHP) in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam, in coordination with the Regional Laboratory Manager (RLM) in Bangkok, Thailand for technical matters and the supervision of the Head of Office (HoO), Ho Chi Minh, Viet Nam for administrative matters, incumbent will be responsible for provision of laboratory services with the respect to migration health assessments of the IOM Migration Health
Department (MHD) in Vietnam.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to fraud prevention measures in all aspects of laboratory work performed for service beneficiaries in Migration Health Screening.
  • Ensure adherence to biosafety measures during specimen collection, laboratory procedures, disposing of, storing and shipping of specimens.
  • Ensure that standards of mycobacterium laboratory services correspond to requirements of resettlement countries.
  • Make procedures for prevailing local conditions, levels of expertise and available technology.
  • Maintain optimal workflow to ensure that laboratory services and reporting are provided in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate/organize procurement of consumables required by IOM service laboratories.
  • Liaise with other IOM MHD members for relevant HAP laboratory examinations.
  • Collect and analyze laboratory data for statistical, reporting and planning purposes.
  • Provide monthly statistical reports to CMHP, Regional and Global Laboratory Managers.
  • Maintain a system of laboratory performance indicators with regular monitoring, analysis, and reporting these indicators.
  • Maintain the accuracy and flow of informatics through the laboratory information management system.
  • Oversee the serology and haematology laboratory performance.
  • Communicate with national partners in relation to laboratory services for IOM HAP.
  • Facilitate in training of partner laboratory personnel.
  • Facilitate in updating of standard operating procedures.
  • Facilitate in managing specimens and laboratory materials shipment.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Vietnamese nationals;
  • Graduate of microbiology or laboratory school;
  • High school degree with five years' experience or bachelor's degree with three years’ experience;
  • Working experience in a microbiology laboratory; Laboratory experience in tuberculosis is required as well as HIV and syphilis;
  • Good communication skills; Good organizational and planning skills;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment;
  • Ability and willingness to work in difficult areas/situations; Ability to work effectively and harmoniously within a team of colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds; Personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility, drive for results, creative thinking;
  • Good level of computer literacy, database management is an advantage.

  • Fluency in English and Vietnamese is required.
