Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.

Job Purpose

To be a national consultant for the GIZ-PIN straw project within the activity of setting up the demonstration, production and business model of rice straw composting and biodegardable products.

The identified candidate shall only be required to work 80 days from May 2021 until 15 Oct 2023 (at least 20 days per year) and shall be a permanent resident of Vietnam.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Supervise the fabrication and testing of the composting machine
• Production and field activities
• Working closely with Rynan JSC. to set up the trial/ verification of mechanized rice straw composting at Rynan JSC. factory in Tra Vinh Province
• Supervise and conduct measurements and collections of the related data during the composting process/ field trials. The protocol will be provided by the related IRRI scientist
• Working with Rynan JSC. on developing the rice straw based biodegradable products
• Ensure the machine tested and working succssesfully (in May 2021)
• Data of the related experiments/ field trials (May 2022)
• Technical report on equipment (July 2021) and field trials (July 2023)

Qualifications

• Master of Science in Engineering
• More than 10 years working on agriculture

Skills Required

Mandatory

• Agricultural engineering
• Experience in composting technology and machinery
