Join a dedicated team in the rehabilitation and ongoing care of rescued Asiatic black and Malayan sun bears at Animals Asia’s Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre.
Due to an exciting department restructure, a highly motivated, experienced, and compassionate Vietnamese professional is sought to step up to the role of Technical Supervisor.
The Technical Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Bear Team Managers in overseeing the teams of bear care staff involved in the daily husbandry and management of rescued bears. The Technical Supervisor works closely with the Senior Bear Team Manager, Bear Team Managers, the other Technical Supervisor, the Operations Supervisors and the veterinary team to help oversee various daily operations.
The Technical Supervisor reports to the Senior Bear Team Manager.

The successful candidate would start in September 2021.
Responsibilities
Assisting the Bear Team Managers to oversee daily operations:
Animal care and management;
Assist the Senior Bear Team Manager in running the enrichment and training programs at VBRC
Operant conditioning and formal bear training programmes for a variety of medical, behavioural and management requirements.
Review of enrichment calendars and devices, invention and trial of new enrichment items
Participating in staff development and capacity building, particularly in regard to behavioural and welfare concepts
Human resources:
Carry out staff evaluations;
Ensuring morale is maintained within bear care staff;
Identifying and addressing HR issues with the Senior Bear Team Manager as they arise;
Championing gender equality programs
As needed:
Overseeing the quarantine of newly rescued bears;
Participate in the hand-rearing and care of newly rescued orphan cubs;
Requirements
At least three years work of direct husbandry/behavioural management experience at a captive facility
Ability to manage own time effectively and prioritise tasks
Computer literacy, including Excel
Experience in managementskills is desired
The ability to work in a team or independently
A good sense of humor and excellent communication skills.
