Introduction: Woolcock Institute of Medical Research

The Woolcock Institute of Medical Research is affiliated with the University of Sydney in Australia and is recognized as one of the leading research institutions for respiratory diseases and sleep disorders. Operating in Vietnam since 2009, we have undertaken large operational, epidemiological and clinical research projects and run training in epidemiological and operational research methods for Vietnamese doctors and public health workers. The Woolcock Institute has three research centres and offices in Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and Ca Mau. Currently we directly employ about 50 full-time staff and coordinates multiple study projects within lung health management and treatment across eleven provinces. We also expand research activity to other fields including antimicrobial resistance.

Overview: ACT5 study is project that combines two components to help achieve the goal of Ending TB.

The TEST component involves community wide screening of all community members for latent Tuberculosis (LTBI).  The TREAT component involves commencing participants who screen positive for LTBI onto treatment.  Ultimately, we intend to use a newer treatment which is a single dose, once weekly treatment regimen for 12 weeks.

We will test for over 100,000 community members in Ca Mau and then treating an anticipated 30,000 participants who will be commenced on LTBI treatment. To evaluate the effectiveness of this study, we will compare the prevalence of TB in our intervention communities with the prevalence of TB in communities who did not receive this intervention after two years.

ACT5 Study project is seeking for qualified candidates for some vacancies as follows:

  1. Study Doctor, based in Ca Mau
  2. Study Officer, based in either Hanoi or Ca Mau with regular travel between these locations
  3. Xray Technician, based in Ca Mau
  4. Field Assitant, based in Ca Mau
