Background:

The Vietnam University of Agriculture (VNUA), in collaboration with UCLouvain (Belgium) and the NGO Rikolto Vietnam, is looking to hire detail-oriented part-time field enumerators to support a common research project. The project aims to evaluate the impact of Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS), an alternative certification mechanism, on the income of vegetable farmers in Hanoi Province. To do so, 300 farmers were interviewed in 2018, and will be re-interviewed in May-June 2022. The questionnaire collects information on demographic characteristics, production of vegetables and pesticide use, marketing practices with different types of buyers and certification by different types of food safety control mechanisms.

Role: Conduct extensive farmer interviews

Location: Districts of Thanh Tri, Gia Lam, and Chuong My

Conditions: Part-time, intermittent, at daily-rate work

Required skills and experience:

• Being an MSc or PhD student in agricultural economics or related field at VNUA
• Having a valid driver's license (motorcycle or car)
• Available in May-June 2022 for field interviews at farms (minimum 15 days in total)
• Affinity with agricultural production and marketing
• Highly motivated and personable with good listening skills
• Organized, able to work independently and meet deadlines
• Basic computer skills
• Flexible to learn new technologies: work submission is tablet based (training provided)
• Mother tongue: Vietnamese; fluent in English
