Position Description
Indiana University (IU) seeks applicants for the position of Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) to provide leadership and support for a five-year USAID project (started in August 2021) to build on effective models, introduce innovative approaches, and develop new partnerships to assist the Vietnam National University- Hanoi (VNU-HN), Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh (VNU-HCM), and the University of Danang (UD) to become more independent, sustainable, and high-quality higher education institutions. This is a salaried, full-time, fixed-term position based in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The DCOP will support the leadership of the Chief of Party (COP) to manage implementation and guide the technical direction of the project. These responsibilities include:
The DCOP will support the Chief of Party to direct and oversee all work performed under the project. The DCOP reports to the COP. The position will be based in Hanoi but will involve travel to other cities within Vietnam to work with universities and institutions throughout the country. There may also be opportunities to travel to IU.
Applicant Requirements
The DCOP should be a Vietnamese national who has at least 5 years of relevant working experience in the higher education sector or in donor-funded project management, of which at least 3 years of experience in areas related to institutional capacity development in Vietnam. The DCOP should also have at least 3 years of demonstrated significant, relevant, progressively increasing responsibility in managing activities of similar scope as this project. In addition to technical experience, the DCOP should have excellent organizational and management skills, proven leadership abilities within a multi-partner initiative, and experience representing projects at high levels of policy engagement.
