The priority area “Environmental policy and sustainable use of natural resources“ is covered by the “GIZ Green Cluster”. The Green cluster currently comprises a total of four teams in the thematic areas of climate policy, coast and water, agriculture, as well as biodiversity and forests. The thematic area “biodiversity and forests” (FoBi unit) includes the project “Upscaling of sustainable forest management and certification” in Vietnam (SFM Project); the project “Support to the implementation of the FLEGT VPA” (FLEGT Project); the work package “Conservation of ecosystems, which unite different ecosystems” (SFF initiative); the work package “Reducing health risks in the wild animal trade in Viet Nam” (Alliance Project) under the Global project: Support to the International Alliance against Health Risks in Wildlife Trade. These projects are financed by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) with counter-part funds from the Vietnamese Government. It is jointly implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and responsible units under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
The projects of the FoBi unit cover thematic areas on forest and biodiversity conservation, timber legality, forestry and timber production, One Health as well as crosscutting issues such as gender equality, digitalization, climate change, good governance etc.
