I. General information about the Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) and the project at the Kon Ha Nung Plateau World Biosphere Reserve:
Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) is an international non-governmental organization headquartered in the city of Frankfurt, Germany, specializing in protecting biodiversity. FZS takes action worldwide with the mission “Conserving wildlife and ecosystems, with a focus on Protected Areas and Wilderness” and is committed to a long-term approach.
FZS has supported nature conservation activities in Vietnam since 1991. Since 2015, FZS has focused on the Central Highlands and Central Vietnam. Currently, FZS Project Office in Vietnam is supporting Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve, Gia Lai Province, which helps protect forest ecosystems and wild unique flora and fauna in this area. The overall goal of FZS is to preserve the remaining primary forest area in the highlands and maintain connectivity between important habitats for wild animals and plants.
In 2021, Kon Ha Nung Plateau World Biosphere Reserve was recognized by UNESCO. The new reserve has a total area of 413,500 hectares, including Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve as core areas that are strictly protected. The Management Board of Kon Ha Nung Plateau Biosphere Reserve was established on April 26, 2022. And the Secretariat was established on December 27, 2023. Since then, FZS has cooperated and supported the Management Board of the Kon Ha Nung Plateau World Biosphere Reserve in preserving wildlife. We have worked together with local communities, government agencies and conservation organizations because we believe that successful conservation is always the result of cooperation and respect.
The development of the Kon Ha Nung Plateau World Biosphere Reserve provides an excellent opportunity to enhance habitat conservation of plant and animal species; At the same time, it aims to the community to use natural resources sustainably and eco-friendly.
