THE OPPORTUNITY

The Health Economist will contribute to a globally important and growing portfolio of work on eye health economics and financing as part of the design and operational delivery of Global Advocacy programs and support aligned to The Foundation’s strategic framework.’

ABOUT YOU

You will be an experienced economist, looking to make a real impact. This is an exciting opportunity perform research in developing contexts and to guide program development. You will have knowledge and experience in economic costing and evaluation of health programs. You will also have knowledge and experience in working with social protection and financing schemes in developing countries. Furthermore, you will have knowledge and experience in implementing health and economic research projects (using primary and secondary data). And finally, you will have quantitative analysis including use of relevant software packages (e.g. STATA, excel).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborating closely across the Global Advocacy team and Programs Division and other divisions to support country program teams to deliver relevant and effective health economics and financing-related research and programming.
  • Supporting the coordination of expert consultants in collaboration with country staff on specific projects to ensure high quality advice and coherence across the broad health economics portfolio of work in-line with the global health economics and financing strategy.
  • Contributing to the implementation of The Fred Hollows Foundation 2024 – 2028 strategy and the aligned health economics and financing portfolio of work including:
  1. Building and promoting a rigorous, evidence-based investment case for eye health action.
  2. Investigate how evidence can be best used to unlock funding and resourcing and promote multi-sector action for eye health.
  3. Influencing the appropriate, efficient, effective, and equitable inclusion of eye health in national health financing schemes, aligning this to and informing broader universal health coverage goals.
  • Supporting national, regional, and global influencing and advocacy as required for The Foundation’s development work.
  • Facilitating strong working relationship across The Foundation and drive shared initiatives.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • 5 years’ experience Supporting costing and economic evaluation work in a health economics & financing related field.
  • Negotiating and partnering with government, research and / or non-government entities in a health-related field, particularly in a development setting.
  • Designing and implementing research projects with a track record of formal publications.
  • Working across cultures.
  • Previous experience of collaboration in international health economics research projects, with a focus on development and vulnerable populations
