Earth Venture Capital (Earth VC) is a global venture capital firm that seeks to empower digital solutions tackling climate change while having the potential to deliver a significant financial return. Believing that the next generation of unicorns will be climate tech startups, we aim to leverage the power of entrepreneurship to achieve these three climate goals: (1) to abandon petrol and diesel, (2) to store carbon and reduce carbon emission and (3) to switch to renewable energy.
Earth Venture Foundation is looking for a leadership position to accelerate its catalytic support for scientific works as well as the deployment of critical climate technologies. The Head of Earth Venture Foundation reports to the Board of Directors and holds responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Foundation as well as shaping the future of the organization through vision, values, leadership, and strategy.
Your scope of work
Leadership; Community Engagement and Partnership
- Lead the Foundation's strategic planning and establish objectives based on the Foundation's vision, goals, and budget considerations;
- Recruit and develop a qualified team, foster open communications and a collaborative spirit;
- Create and maintain strong relationships with nonprofit organizations and community leaders throughout the region to understand and articulate evolving needs in the region;
- Represent the Foundation in the community at large; at public and private events, grantee events, public hearings, panels, and various other engagements in the region, including board service for other community nonprofits or philanthropic organizations.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge on issues and regulation applicable to charitable giving (accounting, legal, investment, etc.);
- Cultivate relationships with existing and prospect donors and lead the fundraising efforts.
Grantmaking and Related Activities
- Develop a pipeline of grant-fundable projects, and facilitate the evaluation of grant applications;
- Prepare summaries and make recommendations to the Board concerning grant proposals;
- Research and keep abreast of issues, trends, exemplary programs, and best practices in the Foundation's major program areas;
- Monitor grantee performance by reviewing and summarizing grantee reports, maintaining positive relationships with grantees, following up with grantees as needed to obtain necessary information, providing technical assistance, and engaging in evaluation and problem-solving.
- Sourcing co-grantor.
Administration
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Foundation including overseeing grant administration and operations and ensuring compliance with all policies as well as legal and contractual obligations;
- Oversee budgeting, investments, and maintenance of correct and complete records required for the healthy operation of the Foundation;
- Work with the Board to ensure that the Foundation's investments and financial management are effective and appropriately aligned with the Foundation's vision and mission.
Signs this might be a fit for you
- 6-8 years of experience in a leadership position of non-profit organizations, universities, CSR/ CSV departments in big corporations, family offices, endowment funds or development financial institutions;
- Have an entrepreneurial mindset and belief in the power of entrepreneurship and innovation;
- Able to step back from day-to-day activities to view the community’s needs from a different perspective, sees the bigger picture, trends, opportunities, etc.
- Have a strong passion for human-centric, environmentally focused initiatives;
- Project to others through actions and manner a favorable impression of personal credibility, professionalism, strong faith-based values and integrity;
- Seek opportunities to work with others together on projects and use teams to address relevant issues. Solicit the opinions of others and modify the outcome based on information gathered from multiple sources;
- Other personality traits: tremendous energy and drive for success, a self-starter and a geek for multitasking, dealing with ambiguity and uncertainty in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
