Description of the project the Intern will complete:

PATH is implementing the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) multi-year project called “USAID Strengthening Local Health Security Activity in Vietnam”. The goal of the project is to strengthen Vietnam’s capacity at the sub-national levels to effectively prevent, detect, and respond to epidemic-prone emerging infectious diseases (EID) through One Health (human, animal, and environment) approaches to achieve Global Health Security targets for zoonotic diseases (ZDs), EID surveillance and response, and risk communications and community engagement (now called “project”).

PATH is currently seeking a qualified Project Assistant Intern for the project. The Project Assistant Intern will report to the AH Surveillance & Detection Team Lead and work closely with PATH Vietnam program team.

Description of overall learning objectives and goals for the internship/benefit to the Intern:

To gain practical experience in the international NGO environment in terms of project implementation & management, including regular duties, and responsibilities of program and/or position; This includes learning and practicing designing and conduction landscape assessments to develop the project workplan.

Brief description of required skills/experience the intern should possess:

  • Vietnamese national.
  • Recent graduates or senior students, preferably with majors in Veterinary Medicine or Development, Economics, Foreign Trade.
  • Creativity, adaptability, flexibility, problem-solving, and professionalism.
  • Motivation and a strong desire to work with community settings.
  • Proficient in data management.
  • Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, responsibility, teamwork, collaboration, and strong work ethic.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in both Vietnamese and English.
  • Strong MS Office, especially Word and PowerPoint or other software for editing photos and making presentations.

Skills to be developed and/or expanded during internship:

  • Experience in design tools and conduct survey/ assessment, data management and data analysis
  • Experience in organizing technical working group meetings
  • Project implementation and management
  • Project planning
  • Coordination skills
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Other related skills in logistics arrangement, financial process, event organization, and administration.

Proposed activities:

Act as a Project Assistant Intern to support the project conducting various landscape assessments, with the following tasks:

  • Support to develop survey/ assessment tools.
  • Support planning and implementing assessments/ surveys.
  • Collaborate with the project team to check reference documents and data from credible sources.
  • Support to manage assessment data.
  • Support to organize technical working group meetings to develop animal health event -based surveillance guideline.
  • Contribute to the development of content for PowerPoint presentations, assessment reports.
  • Support with general day-to-day administrative tasks.

Candidates must currently have legal authorization to work in Vietnam.
